Instead, it's drawing a feed of blistering, high-pressure, vaporized water from a century-old loop of steam pipes that runs beneath the city's streets. Like dozens of cities, New York has a loop of steam pipes under its streets that could help reverse the urban doom loop. Elliott, the $65 billion hedge fund best known for its shareholder activism , has made a $2.5 billion investment in Texas Instruments and is urging the company to improve its free cash flow by adapting a less rigid plan for capital expenditures. Shares of TI jumped about 3% on the news before paring back the gains in morning trading. Elliott believes Texas Instrument's rigid adherence to a capital expenditure plan put in place in 2022 has eviscerated shareholder returns by greatly reducing a metric by which TI has always asked to be judged– free cash flow. Its stock price, Elliott insists, has suffered as a result, trailing its peer group by substantial margins over the last two, four, six and ten year periods. That allocation of capital will result in the addition of capacity allowing for the company to almost double current annual revenues to $30 billion.

Strong margins, revenue growth and insulation from automotive market headwinds have UBS labeling Sweden's Autoliv as a "growth safe haven story." Autoliv is isolated from short-term industry concerns, such as electric vehicle penetration, "intense capital allocation or China underexposure," UBS analyst Juan Perez-Carrascosa wrote on Tuesday. UBS upgraded Autoliv, a maker of seatbelts, airbags and steering wheels, to buy from neutral and raised its price target by 38% to $141 from $102, which was far below Friday's close at $125.73. On an overcast April day in South Africa’s administrative capital, Pretoria, President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered a lackluster speech commemorating the end of white-minority rule in South Africa. On several occasions, the former South African president Jacob Zuma proclaimed that the A.N.C. would rule “until Jesus comes back.” Now Mr. Zuma is hoping to unseat the party that enabled his notorious graft. The party’s emergence is one of the many morbid symptoms in South Africa today. Thirty years on from apartheid’s end, South Africa is in the midst of another complex transformation.

CNN —A federal appeals court, including two Donald Trump appointees, ruled Tuesday that the Democratic-lean of Washington, DC’s, population does not make its jury pool too biased to try a January 6 Capitol rioter case. The DC US Circuit Court of Appeals, in an opinion written by Barack Obama-appointed Judge Patricia Millett and joined by Judges Gregory Katsas and Neomi Rao, both Trump appointees, rejected the version of the argument put forward by Webster. “Webster asserts that the District overwhelmingly voted for President Biden and historically votes for Democratic candidates. … That may be,” Millett wrote. “Generalized disapproval of criminal conduct — even the specific conduct at issue in a defendant’s case — says nothing about a juror’s ability to be impartial in deciding whether a particular individual committed a crime or not.”
